Marketing Council - Volunteer/Advisor Role
Who are we?
1 in 3 Americans can’t afford a $400 emergency
NeighborShare’s mission is to ensure everyone has access to just-in-time financial assistance so a small but pivotal expense, like a car repair or unexpected bill, doesn’t lead to a crisis like job loss or homelessness. We partner with local nonprofits to identify urgent needs that would otherwise go unmet and our growing network of neighbors, corporate partners, and private funders meet these needs in real-time via our tech-enabled platform.
Our model reimagines traditional philanthropy. It’s fast, flexible, community-powered giving that prioritizes dignity, trust, and direct outcomes. It also draws on research that affirms the efficacy and efficiency of direct cash assistance.
What began with a handful of partners has grown into a national network of 58 organizations across 19 states. To date, we’ve fulfilled $1.5 million+ in urgent needs for more than 15,000 neighbors.
Our primary growth driver today is connecting corporate, public, and philanthropic funders with impact that aligns with their values and CSR strategies. We’re proud to partner with organizations like Hertz, the MassMutual Foundation, Dollar Tree, the Motley Fool Foundation, Synchrony, and more – each helping to fund needs in specific categories (e.g. transportation, education) or geographic areas. As we continue to grow, we are seeking our next class of institutional partners and expanding consumer micro-funding models in key markets.
NeighborShare is rooted in trust, speed, and the belief that small acts of generosity, delivered at the right moment, can have a transformative impact. We’re building a new kind of safety net that’s powered by community and connection. We’re looking for creative, enthusiastic and empathetic marketing professionals to join our Marketing Council. This group works in collaboration with our Board of Directors, chaired by Carey Halio, Global Treasurer of Goldman Sachs, to help build and guide our next chapter.
Who are you?
The NeighborShare pro bono Marketing Council connects compassion with action. We’re bringing together leaders, doers, connectors, and learners who believe in the power of building engagement and community to drive growth. Our group values deep marketing expertise, fresh ideas, and open minds, and believe we are better together when we learn from one another and strengthen each other’s experiences, companies and careers.
As a group, we will provide strategic brand and marketing planning, creative thinking, and practical execution to expand NeighborShare’s reach, impact, and visibility. We are motivated by their mission, by the belief that every neighbor helped strengthen our communities, and by the growing need across the nation.
If you believe there’s never been a better time to be a neighbor, then join this virtual, professional community if you are excited to:
Roll up your sleeves and understand new audiences and segments well enough to shape smart, differentiated go-to-market strategies without a big budget
Imagine new ways to connect consumers and businesses with a nonprofit mission, without resorting to pandering or superficial creative
Plan and implement on social and digital platforms to build meaningful engagement, reputation, and trust across a breadth of consumer personas
Pair big-picture thinking with hands-on execution, using channels and tools like Meta, Klaviyo, HubSpot, and Google Analytics
Activate your network by inviting marketing specialists, peers, and partners as collaborators or contributors when specialized insight or support is needed
Build new relationships, expand your marketing community, and form genuine professional friendships along the way
We’re seeking a range of marketing expertise, not rigid roles. This collective is built for people who bring deep expertise to diverse, overlapping skills, and are energized by learning new things alongside others. Each marketing program will encompass strategic planning, campaign and content development, production and reporting. Some of our priority marketing programs include:
B2B Sponsor Program: Expanding our national strategic partners within key enterprise segments, as well as developing a new SMB sponsor audience. Key segments include real estate/housing, healthcare, transportation, and retail.
Consumer/Individual Giving Marketing: Development of a scalable Boston-area consumer campaign to acquire individual donors at key times of the year for specific needs. Encompasses awareness/reputation-building, direct-to-consumer, and influencer and ambassador marketing strategies.
B2B2C Campaigns: Engaging local consumer-facing businesses to implement customer engagement and donor campaigns.
Employee Engagement Program: Partnering with our enterprise and SMB sponsors to engage their employees as individual donors, including partnership development with workplace giving platforms.
Local Channel Marketing: Engaging Boston-area consumers through consumer-oriented service platforms (rideshare apps, local business portals, etc.)

Our pro bono marketing council members are accomplished, busy professionals who wear more than a few hats in addition to serving on our council. We expect and appreciate the following commitments from our members:
